What is PEEK 450G?
VICTREX PEEK 450G is a specific grade of PEEK polymer, a unique grade which is only made by Victrex and which has a specific range of molecular weight. The molecular weight defines the bulk properties of the PEEK 450G polymer, including its stiffness, strength, toughness, crystallinity and melt processing behaviour.
What is PEEK material?
PEEK material (polyetheretherketone) is a high-performance semi-crystalline engineering thermoplastic with outstanding harsh chemical resistance, very low moisture uptake, good fire performance, excellent mechanical strength across a broad temperature range, and good dimensional stability.
How hot can PEEK get?
PEEK has a glass transition temperature of around 143 °C (289 °F) and melts around 343 °C (662 °F). Some grades have a useful operating temperature of up to 250 °C (482 °F).
Why is PEEK so expensive?
PAEK family polymers are not cheap. They are highly engineered, highly processed materials that, even at large scales, would not be inexpensive to produce. That’s not to say that PEEK won’t one day become cost competitive with other high-end engineering polymers.
How strong is PEEK?
PEEK Properties and Material Options
| UNITS | PEEK | |
|---|---|---|
| Tensile strength | psi | 14,000 |
| Flexural modulus | psi | 590,000 |
| Izod impact (notched) | ft-lbs/in of notch | 1.6 |
| Heat deflection temperature @ 264 psi | °F | 306 |
Is PEEK stronger than aluminum?
Carbon PEEK shows even higher mechanical properties, when compared to PEEK. Its Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS) can reach up to 138 MPa, making it up to 35% stronger than PEEK and some Aluminium alloys, like Al 6063. Carbon PEEK Tensile modulus is also very high, up to 14 GPa.
Is PEEK expensive?
As you can imagine, PEEK and PEKK are more expensive than most polymers on the market due to their properties and characteristics. On average, a 500 gram roll of PEEK will cost you between €300 and 350 (about $350 to 420), while the same amount of PEKK will cost you between €350 and 400 (about $415 to 48).
How is Tg calculated?
Tg is typically calculated by using a half-height technique in the transition region. The heating rate and sample heat history are a couple of factors that may affect the test result. Depending on the equipment capability, DSC can be used for a wide range of thermoplastic and thermoset polymers.
What causes a high glass transition temperature?
Pressure and free volume. Increase in pressure of surrounding leads to decrease in free volume and ultimately high Tg. Other factors like branching, alkyl chain length, bond interaction, flexibility of polymer chain, film thickness etc. also have significant impact on glass transition temperature of polymers.
Is PEEK better than titanium?
Though there are similar initiatives targeted at titanium, PEEK’s superior processability likely means that there is more room to improve upon the polymer. In the battle of biomaterials, PEEK offers a superior modulus, better radiolucency and a wider range of processing options.
What is Tg testing?
A triglycerides test is a blood test that measures the amount of a fat in your blood called triglycerides. High triglycerides may increase your risk for a heart attack or stroke.
What is Tg and TM?
The terms TG (or Tg) and TM (or Tm) give two important parameters of polymers. These are temperatures at which the texture of polymer changes. These values are characteristic features of polymers. TG refers to the glass transition temperature whereas TM refers to the melting temperature.
What glass transition temperature tells us?
Glass transition temperature helps determine various flexible and rigid applications for a material [17,24]. Melting point also known as melt temperature is the critical temperature above which the crystalline regions in a semicrystalline plastic are able to flow.
