What are Vellies shoes?
Veldskoene (“FELT-skoona”) or colloquially vellies (“FELL-ys”), are South African walking shoes made from vegetable-tanned leather or soft rawhide uppers attached to a leather footbed and rubber sole without tacks or nails.
Do you wear socks with Vellies?
Should I wear socks with my vellies? It is your vellies, so you decide. Most people prefer socks and others like to wear their vellies without.
What are Veldskoen shoes made of?
All our Soles are made from 100% recyclable rubber compound that has an extended durability. It also has shorter cycle times, lower energy consumption, and less waste during manufacturing, in effect slashing our greenhouse gas emissions.
Are Veldskoen comfortable?
All day Comfort: Veldskoen leather naturally conforms and moulds to your foot. After a few days of wear, they will feel like they are an extension of your foot.
Are Vellies comfortable?
The shoes are considered “good quality” if they offer excellent comfort and have a beautiful design. In addition, you should choose a comfortable shoe that is well made. This way, you will feel great every time you walk in the shoes because the foot will feel comfortable, and the fit is right.
How do you clean Vellies shoes?
Those can be washed separately by hand or in the machine.
- Get those Vellies nice and dry before you do anything to them.
- Brush off any dirt with a wire brush.
- Dampen a microfibre cloth with warm water, and wipe over the affected area in circular motions.
- Let your Vellies dry in the sun.
How do you take care of Vellies?
How should Vellies fit?
Your Veldskoen shoes will stretch quite a bit over the bridge of your foot. To ensure a perfect Veldskoen fit, we have found that they need to be a little tight the first time you try them on. You will notice that the leather will stretch around the bridge of your foot as soon as a few hours into wearing your shoes.
Do you wear socks with Veldskoen?
They are made from the highest grade African suede leather, we recommend wearing them for 1-2 weeks to break into a soft as butter leather. Pro tip: trying them with socks can also help the shoes break in more easily!
Can I wash Vellies?
If you want your VELDSKOEN® to age beautifully, we suggest you don’t wash them in the washing machine. If you wash them by hand, in any of the ways mentioned above, your ‘velle’ will keep their character and the cow-hide leather will keep better and for longer.
How do you protect Vellies?
Regularly treating vellies with a protective spray that will repel water and stains can prolong wear (spray can be used every few months). If vellies have artwork on suede leather, take care not to soil suede with polish, only use spray protector on this area.
Can you use dubbin on Vellies?
Try not to use Dubbin on our Vellies, as we have found it to have a chemical reaction on the stitching on some occasions. Do not tug on the loops at the back of the shoe, they are added as a visual element and not for assistance in pulling on the shoe.
