What is a morel Lavallee?
Morel-Lavallée lesions are post-traumatic, closed degloving injuries occurring in the subcutaneous plane superficial to the muscle plane due to disruption of capillaries resulting in an effusion containing hemolymph and necrotic fat. MRI is the modality of choice in the evaluation of Morel-Lavallée lesion.
How long does it take for a Morel Lavallee lesion to heal?
Complete healing of the soft tissue and skin occurred in 6 patients. Skin necrosis occurred in 2 patients and was treated by skin grafting. The mean soft tissue healing time was 3.25 weeks.
Is a Morel Lavallee lesion painful?

For closed degloving injuries that are less serious, treatment may involve a combination of compression bandages and physical therapy….For open degloving injuries, treatment may include:
- Skin reattachment.
- Reattachment of fingers or toes.
- Skin grafts.
- Amputation.
