You’d be surprised how many culinary daredevils there are out there! Is Beanboozled halal? As far as we know, yes.

Do Bean Boozled have gelatin?

They do not contain meat, gelatin, dairy or eggs. Please note that we use beeswax and confectioners glaze to seal in the flavor and give the beans their shine which may not be suitable for a vegan diet.

Are Jelly Belly beans vegan?

Are Jelly Beans Vegan? Sadly not. Jelly beans use Shellac and beeswax in their shiny crunchy shell. These are animal by-products which means our jelly beans are not suitable for vegans.

Are jelly beans gluten free?

According to their website: “All flavors of Jelly Belly beans are free of gluten. We do not use any wheat, rye, barley, or oats in the basic recipe for Jelly Belly jelly beans. The modified food starch listed on the package is cornstarch.”

Why are jellybeans shiny?

They’re often coated with shellac, a sticky substance derived from secretions of the female Kerria lacca, an insect native to Thailand. Where you’ll find it: Shellac makes jelly beans, candy corn, and other hard-coated candy look shiny. It may be called a “confectioner’s glaze” on the packaging.

Do jelly beans have insect poop on them?

Beetle poop is the secret ingredient that makes jelly beans shiny. The FDA calls this “shellac” and not beetle dump for some strange reason. Shellac is actually found in a lot more candy that just jelly beans like Hershey’s, Milk Duds, Junior Mints, Godiva Chocolate, and the candy everyone loves to hate: candy corn.
