ellaOne is a contraceptive intended to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or if your contraceptive method has failed.

How effective is ellaOne 30mg?

It is 98% effective regardless of when it is taken, up to 5 days after unprotected sex. You can take EllaOne at anytime in your cycle and it is suitable for women of child-bearing age and for adolescents. EllaOne can only be used in a menstrual cycle and should not be used as a regular form of contraception.

How quickly does ellaOne work?

In a clinical trial, ellaOne® has been shown to reduce the rate of pregnancy to just 9 in 1000 when taken within 24 hours of unprotected sex. This is because of the active ingredient ulipristal acetate, which has been shown to be 2.5 times more effective than other morning after pills containing levonorgestrel.

No. Your chances of becoming pregnant will return rapidly after use of ella® for emergency contraception. ella® is not a regular contraceptive pill, so it will not protect you against future acts of sexual intercourse.
