The concept of time-out was invented, named, and used (see Child Magazine, 2006, “20 People who Changed Childhood”) by Arthur W. Staats in his extended work with his daughter (and later son), and was part of a long-term program of behavioral analysis beginning in 1958 that treated various aspects of child development.
Why were timeouts discontinued?
A Cadbury spokeswoman told the Birmingham Mail the current Time Out bar was being discontinued because it had not proved to be very popular. She added that a new trial version of the product – the 111 calorie Time Out Wafer – would be introduced, which has made changes to the bar’s layers of chocolate and wafer.

Cadbury has confirmed they are scrapping the traditional two finger wafer in favour of a more streamlined single wafer, called, imaginatively, the Time Out Wafer. The decision was made because the two-finger chocolate biscuit wafer hasn’t been selling well.
