What does IP55 waterproof mean?
Water splashed against the machine from any direction shall have no harmful effect. IP55. Water projected by a nozzle against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effect. IP56. Water from heavy seas or water projected from jets shall not enter the machine in any harmful quantity.
What is IP55 motor protection?
IP55 does not necessarily imply sealing of the motor external surface, it can mean sealing the bearings, and totally protecting motor windings and all connections with resin, a plastic cover, or both. Water is then permitted to enter the motor but can do no harm.

IP55 headphones can be sprayed with a stream of water for 5-10 minutes (depending on the test setup) without being damaged. Just remember the two numbers are independent, so if you have three headphones rated IPX5, IP55, and IP65, they’re all equally good at keeping water out.
