What do blennies look like?
The eyes and mouth of a blenny are relatively large. They oftentimes bear distinctive cirri — wispy antenna or whisker-like appendages — on their heads. Their bodies are long and sleek, some so long they resemble eels and snakes, but nearly all members of the blenny group are smallish in body size.
What fish eats blennies?
Predators. Larger fish such as striped bass, bluefish and weakfish will prey on blennies, who hide from predators within the small crevices of oyster reefs.
How big can blennies get?
Blennies reach a size of three inches and are typically bottom dwellers. Blenny Fish are somewhat territorial in nature, and only one species per tank is recommended. Extensive rockwork and a good growth of microalgae are necessary to successfully maintain them in captivity.

How do you identify a blenny?
Most blenny species can be distinguished by their single dorsal fin, which runs the full length of the body and has a distinctive notch in the centre which can make it look like two separate fins.
What’s the difference between gobies and blennies?
While a goby has a fused pelvic fin, which evolved into a suction cup, the fins of blennies are not modified in such a way. Also, blennies often perch in a curved body position, in contrast to the gobies, which rest with a straight body.
