In addition to trout, the lake also has very good largemouth bass fishing, and fair sunfish, black crappie, and channel catfish opportunities; it has become an excellent chain pickerel lake, with October being the top month (see Regulations for license requirements, closure dates and limits).
Can you fish at Douthat State Park?
Douthat State Park does offer two family fishing piers on the 50-acre lake (each at the opposite ends of the lake). There is a special kid’s fishing area just below the dam on a section of Wilson Creek for kids 12 and under.

How do you target rainbow trout in a lake?
Use a live bait float to target the top half of the water column. During the hot summer months, Trout are deeper and typically further from shore. Use a bottom rig with an egg sinker to get your casts out deep. Bait your hook with floating bait so your offering rises up close to the thermocline.

Is there Internet at Douthat State Park?
There is free wifi at the store though. over a year ago. I have AT and there was NOTHING in the campground. However, I was able to get text messages and emails when I hiked the trail behind the campground (forget the name of the trail) and sat on the bench at the lake overlook.
