Does spiral duct leak?
It has long been recognized that spiral duct systems leak a great deal less than comparable rectangular systems. This can be easily explained when looking at the source of leaks, seams and connections.
Is spiral duct air tight?
There is no difference in pressure in spiral air ducts, as there are in rectangular ducts. There are also no interruptions in airflow, which makes spiral ducts far quieter. Because of this, exposed oval spiral ducts are ideal for open building layouts.

How big should return duct be?
There usually are fewer return vents, but they are much larger. A typical supply vent is 4 by 10 to 12 inches and a typical return vent is 16 by 20 inches or larger. Houses often have two or more return collecting points, each with a filter, which join before re-entering the heating unit.
