When an exit device is specified as exit only then you generally don’t have any trim to worry about on the outside. These are a couple basic functions of trim that you should be aware of: Standard Lever – Key locks and unlocks trim. Night Latch Lever – Key retracts latchbolt but does not unlock.
What is exit device?
An exit device – sometimes called a Panic Device or a Crash Bar – is mechanical door hardware operated from the inside of an outswing exit door through the use of a crossbar or push rail and extends at least halfway across its width.

Does panic hardware require power?
Panic hardware with electric latch retraction operates like normal panic hardware for egress – pushing the touchpad will allow free egress at all times. The EL feature retracts the latch using electricity, and when power is removed, the latch automatically projects and the door becomes latched.
Is panic hardware required on exit doors?
Keep in mind that when an application requires panic hardware, all of the doors in the means of egress from that room or area will typically require panic hardware, including the exit access, the exit and the exit discharge.
