Do pro cyclists use Speedplay?

Speedplays have been used by many pro riders over the years and they’re popular with bike fitters because there’s so much scope for adjustment. They’re also pretty darned light and offer low stack height compared to some alternatives.

Is Speedplay still in business?

Speedplay pedals are back and there’s a power meter coming. In 2019, GPS and indoor training brand Wahoo acquired pedal maker Speedplay and today the brand has announced a refreshed range of four road pedals, with a power meter pedal option to follow later in the year.

Are Speedplay pedals discontinued?

The old Speedplay Pavé was markedly better in this respect, but sadly it’s been discontinued under Wahoo’s ownership.

No. Essentially 2 cleats/pedals, X series(unrestricted float), Zero series(adjustable float). Send a pic or go to a decent LBS for what they are and cleats. ‘Light Action’ and standard ‘Zero’ cleat are not the same but yes, you can use each on either.

Are Speedplay pedals SPD compatible?

Unfortunately, the two systems are not entirely compatible with each other, so take take to get the right system for you. Many people have been able to clip their SPD-SL cleat into a Look pedal in a pinch, but it is not a good long-term answer because the systems are just a little different.

Are Sidi shoes compatible with Speedplay pedals?

Sidi mountain bike shoes are compatible the standard 2 bolt cleat fixings as found on Shimano SPD pedals, and many others.

If you don’t have a Speedplay-native shoe, no problem. Speedplay’s cleat kit includes the plate that transforms a 3-hole shoe into a 4-bolt, Speedplay-ready shoe. However, that plate that performs that transformation must be mounted flat against the shoe.
