When did CP Holiday Trains start?
1999
First launched in 1999, the CP Holiday Train has travelled across Canada and the northern U.S. delighting spectators with its festive and brightly-lit train cars. At each stop along the route, the train has raised money, collected food, and highlighted the work of local food banks.
Where does the Christmas train travel?
Great Smoky Mountains Railroad’s Polar Express train travels to the North Pole by way of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. On the train, families listen to a reading of the classic story, then Santa gives each kid a silver bell, just like in the book.

Is the Canadian Christmas train running this year?
The Holiday Train will not be visiting communities again this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but the goal of raising food and funds in the fight against hunger remains the same.

No train services run on Christmas Day. No train services run on Boxing Day, except for a handful of airport transfer services. Train services run as usual but may end a bit earlier on New Year’s Eve.
