One is a standalone that is a baby-sized potty chair of sorts with a removable bottom that can be used to empty the contents into your toilet. The other type is a toddler seat that can be attached to your toilet that helps your baby feel safe and secure and not be afraid to fall.

A potty chair is a standalone product that is placed on the floor for your toddler to use while a potty seat goes either over or under an actual toilet. The choice of which you use is completely up to you and your little one. Some children prefer using the toilet right from the start, especially for poos.
Can you potty train without a potty chair?
Skipping the potty chair and going straight to the toilet is good if you have all the right equipment (i.e. step stool and size-appropriate toilet seat).
When should I introduce a potty?
Most parents start thinking about potty training when their child is between 2 and 2 and a half, but there’s no perfect time. Some people find it easier to start in the summer, when there are fewer clothes to take off and washed clothes dry more quickly.

You can potty train a one-year-old anywhere between 12 and 24 months, but the most important thing is to start! Prepare your child by reading books about potty training ahead of time. (See resources section). Normalize “going potty” in your home (let them see you go potty).
