What is PiAware?
What is PiAware? ADS-B receivers are electronic devices that listen for radio signals from ADS-B aircraft transponders and decodes them to determine aircraft positions. FlightAware has created an open source software solution called PiAware to make aircraft data accessible to everyone.
How do I set up PiAware?
Go to https://etcher.io/ download the SD card writer (approx 80MB) and follow the directions to install the program. Open Etcher. Select the PiAware zip file. Select the correct Micro SD card USB drive carefully, the process will overwrite any data on the drive and people have lost years worth of pictures accidentally.
What ports does PiAware use?
piaware itself listens on no ports. It connects to piaware.flightaware.com:1200 for feeding data, localhost:30005 for receiving data, and by default it connects to localhost:30104 for returning mlat results. Also, outbound UDP to a port in the range 4999… 9999 on whichever FlightAware host it connects to.

How do I set up Piaware?
Setting the configuration via USB storage device is only supported on the PiAware 3 SD card image install.
- Use the “piaware-config” utility to view and change settings. Run “piaware-config ” to make changes.
- Edit /boot/piaware-config.
- For package-based installs, use piaware-config or edit /etc/piaware.

How do I upgrade my Piaware?
In most cases you can update to the latest PiAware version by going to your site’s My ADS-B Stats page, clicking the gray gear icon, and sending a “Upgrade and restart PiAware” device command.
