What is Baroid?
BAROID weighting material is a specially processed barite in powder form for use as a drilling fluid weighting additive. BAROID weighting material meets the American Petroleum Institute (API) Specification 13A, section 7 requirement for a drilling fluid barite. High quality, free from corrosive and abrasive material.
What is bore Gel used for?
Bore-Gel® fluid system is a single sack, boring fluid system specially formulated for use in horizontal directional drilling (HDD) applications. Bore Gel® system is a proprietary blended product using high-quality Wyoming sodium bentonite.
Why is bentonite added to drilling fluid?
The most common use of bentonite is in drilling fluids. The bentonite in the flush fluid lubricates and cools the cutting tools whilst protecting against corrosion. As the drilling fluid generates hydrostatic pressure in the borehole, it hinders fluid and gas penetration.
What is Holeplug?
HOLEPLUG® is a naturally occurring Wyoming sodium bentonite clay that is a sized and graded chip material used to seal and plug earthen boreholes.
How do you prevent circulation loss?
Prevention of lost circulation
- Maintaining proper mud weight.
- Minimizing annular-friction pressure losses during drilling and tripping in.
- Adequate hole cleaning.
- Avoiding restrictions in the annular space.
- Setting casing to protect upper weaker formations within a transition zone.
Is bore gel toxic?
Substances CAS Number Carcinogenic Effects Crystalline silica, quartz 14808-60-7 Contains crystalline silica which may cause silicosis, a delayed and progressive lung disease.
Does bentonite increase viscosity?
It was found that the viscosity and shear stress increased with increasing bentonite concentration and storage time.

What is poor circulation caused by?
Several conditions can lead to poor circulation. The most common causes include obesity, diabetes, heart conditions, and arterial issues.
What causes loss circulation?
Plaque buildup, blood clots or narrowed blood vessels can lead to poor circulation. When obstacles or narrow paths slow down blood flow, it’s difficult for your body to send blood to every part of your body in an efficient way. Exercise and healthy food can help.
Is drilling mud hazardous?
Hazard Overview May cause eye and skin irritation. Airborne dust may be explosive. If inhaled, remove from area to fresh air. Get medical attention if respiratory irritation develops or if breathing becomes difficult.
Are Drilling Fluids hazardous?
Typical drilling fluid components are not hazardous materials, with the waste material usually considered as excavation spoils, not requiring special disposal procedures.
What are the three basic components of a drilling fluid?
The Components of Drilling Fluids/Mud Water-based drilling mud most commonly consists of Bentonite clay (gel) with additives such as Barium sulfate (Barite), Calcium carbonate (chalk) or Hematite. Various thickeners are used to influence the viscosity of the fluid, e.g. xanthan gum, guar gum, glycol, or starch.
What is the pH of drilling mud?
8.5 to 10.5
Although, there was variations in the mud pH value obtained from different additives, all additives were found to have pH value that is within standard range of 8.5 to 10.5.
