What is Mecasermin used for?
Mecasermin is used for long-term treatment of growth failure in children with severe primary IGF-1 deficiency (Primary IGFD) or with growth hormone (GH) gene deletion who have developed neutralizing antibodies to GH. Mecasermin is available under the following different brand names: Increlex.
How do you inject Increlex?
INCRELEX is administered by subcutaneous injection only. Do not administer intravenously. INCRELEX injection sites should be rotated to a different site (upper arm, thigh, buttock or abdomen) with each injection to help prevent lipohypertrophy.
What does INCRELEX treat?
Increlex is used to treat growth failure in children whose bodies do not make enough IGF-1. Increlex is not for use in children who have growth hormone deficiency, malnutrition, underactive thyroid, or those who are taking long-term steroid medications.
Who makes Increlex?
Increlex®’s active principle (IGF-1) for the treatment of Severe Primary IGF-1 Deficiency (Primary IGFD) is manufactured by Lonza Biologics Inc. at its Hopkinton, MA facility. Ipsen and Lonza will continue to work with FDA in the supply of US patients with this important drug.
What is the mechanism of action of Mecasermin?
Mecasermin is a recombinant insulin-like growth factor-1 used for the long-term treatment of growth failure in pediatric patients with primary IGF-1 deficiency or with growth hormone gene deletion due to the development of neutralizing antibodies to GH.
Is increlex a growth hormone?
Increlex is a liquid that contains man-made insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). Increlex is used to treat children who are very short for their age because their bodies do not make enough IGF-1. This condition is called primary IGF-1 deficiency. IGF-1 should not be used instead of growth hormone.
What does IGF-1 LR3 do?
IGF1-LR3 Peptide Therapy IGF-1 LR3 inhibits the movement of glucose into the body’s cells which facilitates fat burning and the use of fat in the body for the production of energy. Its effects last most of the day and have made it a preferred variant by a majority of patients and physicians.
What is spigfd?
Severe primary IGF-1 deficiency (SPIGFD) is a medical term used when IGF-1 levels are extremely low or undetectable in the blood. The classical (most well recognised) form of SPIGFD is a genetic condition called Laron syndrome.
What is sermorelin acetate used for?
Sermorelin is used to diagnose and treat poor growth in children. It’s also sometimes used off-label to treat hGH deficiency in adults. Some research has suggested that it can be beneficial in people with certain recurrent brain tumors. Children usually benefit the most from sermorelin.
Does IGF LR3 burn fat?
IGF-1 LR3 inhibits the movement of glucose into the body’s cells which facilitates fat burning and the use of fat in the body for the production of energy. Its effects last most of the day and have made it a preferred variant by a majority of patients and physicians.
What are the symptoms of low growth hormone?
A person who has too little adult growth hormone will have symptoms that include:
- A higher level of body fat, especially around the waist.
- Anxiety and depression.
- Decreased sexual function and interest.
- Fatigue.
- Feelings of being isolated from other people.
- Greater sensitivity to heat and cold.
- Less muscle (lean body mass)
Why do adults need hGH?
Without growth hormone as adults, there is an increased risk of developing abnormal body composition, increased central fat deposition, increased risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes, increased risk of low bone mineral density, and reduced physical and psychological energy and well-being.
What does IGF-1 do?
IGF-1 is a hormone that manages the effects of growth hormone (GH) in your body. Together, IGF-1 and GH promote normal growth of bones and tissues. GH levels in the blood fluctuate throughout the day depending on your diet and activity levels. But IGF-1 levels remain stable.
What causes IGF-1 deficiency?
IGF1 deficiency (IGFD) can be caused by various conditions including growth hormone (GH) deficiency, nutritional deficiencies, and chronic inflammatory diseases (3, 4, 5). However, IGFD may occur as a primary disorder, with no identifiable cause.
What is Increlex used for?
What is Increlex used for? Increlex is used for the long-term treatment of patients aged two to 18 years who are short for their age due to a condition known as ‘severe primary insulin-like-growth-factor-1 deficiency’.
Why is Cabergoline prescribed?
Cabergoline is used to treat different types of medical problems that occur when too much of the hormone prolactin is produced. It can be used to treat certain menstrual problems, fertility problems in men and women, and pituitary prolactinomas (tumors of the pituitary gland).
What does low IGF-1 indicate?
Decreased IGF-1 If the IGF-1 level is decreased, then it is likely that there is a GH deficiency or an insensitivity to GH. If this is in a child, the GH deficiency may have already caused short stature and delayed development and may be treated with GH supplementation.
When is IGF-1 most needed?
It is usually administered right before a post-workout meal or along with glucose or with amino acids with the purpose of preventing hypoglycemia while shutting off proteolysis and increasing protein synthesis (Evans and Lynch, 2003).
What are the symptoms of low IGF-1?
In adults, abnormally low levels of GH and/or IGF-1 may cause subtle, nonspecific symptoms such as:
- Decreased bone density.
- Fatigue.
- Adverse lipid changes.
- Reduced exercise tolerance.
- Depression.
- Thinning, dry skin.
What happens if IGF is high?
Increased secretion of GH and IGF-1 leads to abnormal glucose regulation, causing diabetes mellitus. A defect in lipid metabolism is also observed in some patients with acromegaly. The high level of IGF-1 in acromegaly is related to an increased risk of some cancers, particularly colon cancer and thyroid cancer.
What is tesamorelin used for?
Tesamorelin injection is a hormone similar to the one normally released from the hypothalamus gland in the brain. It is used to reduce excess fat (lipodystrophy) in the abdomen or stomach in patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
