What does vimentin stain?
Vimentin stains virtually all spindle cell neoplasms—mesenchymal spindle cell neoplasms and sarcomatoid carcinomas included. However, vimentin stains a subset of carcinomas regularly and to a significant degree, and this may be useful in the context of a panel of antibodies to narrow a differential diagnosis.
What is Napsin A?
Napsin A is a newly discovered functional aspartic proteinase that is expressed in normal lung parenchyma in type II pneumocytes and is thought to be associated with primary lung adenocarcinoma. Thyroid transcription factor-1 (TTF-1) is a widely used relatively restricted marker for lung adenocarcinoma.
What tumors are vimentin positive?
Vimentin is overexpressed in various epithelial cancers, including prostate cancer, gastrointestinal tumors, tumors of the central nervous system, breast cancer, malignant melanoma, and lung cancer.
What is CK7 test?
CK7 distinguishes between lung and breast epithelium that stain positive, and colon and prostate epithelial cells that are negative. It also reacts with many benign and malignant epithelial lesions, e.g. adenocarcinomas of the ovary, breast and lung.

Vimentin, is a 57kDa class III intermediate filament protein and often found in mesenchymal cells in eukaryotes, or cells that contain a distinct nucleus, and predominately expressed in developing embryo and in cells. Vimentin intermediate filaments are generally present in mesenchymal cells.
How aggressive is Adenosquamous carcinoma?
Adenocarcinoma of the lung (a type of non-small cell lung cancer) is fairly aggressive. Even early diagnosis offers only a 61% chance of survival five years later. That survival rate plummets to only 6% if the cancer has metastasized to distant organs by the time of diagnosis.
What causes Adenosquamous carcinoma lung?
By far, the main risk factor for any lung cancer, including adenocarcinoma, is smoking tobacco. Due to numerous carcinogens present in tobacco smoke, primary or secondary exposure increases risk proportional to the amount of exposure.
