How does TMEA All Region work?
Individual musicians perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part. From this ranking, a select group of musicians advances from their Region to TMEA Area competitions and from there the highest-ranking qualify to perform in a TMEA All-State music group.

How many people make all-state TMEA?
All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive. 1,830 students are selected through a process that begins with over 70,000 students from around the state vying for this honor to perform in one of 18 ensembles sponsored by the Band, Orchestra, and Vocal Divisions.
How hard is it to make all-state choir in Texas?
It is very difficult to make the All-State choir. Over 15,000 students start the process in August and only about 350 make an All-State choir. Although the odds seem very long, Ryan HS has a great history of placing students in the All-State and All-Region choirs.
Is it hard to get into all state band?
The process of advancing to All-State is a competitive process. It requires talent, diligence, and understanding of the audition process. Often, due to lack of auditioning experience, talented players will mess up and choke.

- Learn your music slowly. I get it – you want to learn your music, like, yesterday.

What is a TMEA region audition?
Each TMEA Region hosts contests in which individual middle school students can audition for the opportunity to rehearse together and perform in a Region band, orchestra, or choir. Regions create their own rules and audition materials for these events. Check eligibility here.
