Lab-metal withstands temperatures as high as 350ºF (and as low as -40oF) and when hard, can be painted with lacquer or enamel without danger of bubbling, lifting paint, chipping or peeling. Lab-metal stands up to normal paint baking procedures and may also be powder coated (see special powder coating instructions).

Answer: Regular Lab-metal air dries and can be sanded smooth. Lab-metal 450 air dries but then needs to be heat cured prior to sanding and should only be used if for powder coating temps up to 450F.

Can Lab-metal be plated?

Yes. Lab-metal will accept ground during coating.

How do you use liquid metal filler?

Apply LIQUID METAL FILLER straight from the tube. If desired, use a wet putty knife or spatula to smooth out the repair. LIQUID METAL FILLER will dry in 3 to 4 hours. For filling deep holes, apply LIQUID METAL FILLER.

Can you sand lab metal?

Can I powder coat over JB Weld?

JB weld and powder coat are not likely to work well together. Powder coat often cures at 400 degrees. Aluminum and JB heated together will expand at different rates likely giving an uneven finish.

Can you powder coat over all metal filler?

Metal parts have gouges, scratches or dents. These can easily be filled in before powder coating with the one-part metal filler. The filler can be thinned out and applied like auto body filler and can be sanded and buffed hours later.

What precautions should you take when using solvents?

When handling solvents, the following precautions should be carried out:

  3. Establish procedures and evacuation routes in case of a fire or a solvent spill.

Another product that has worked well for powder coaters is Thermobond-3. It is a good filler that is simple to apply and easy to sand. Lab Metal Epoxy Putty by Alvin Products has also been used by some coaters.

Can you chrome over body filler?

Can you powder coat lab metal?

Lab-metal and Hi-Temp Lab-metal are used to patch, smooth, repair and seal items that need to be powder coated. Lab-metal will air dry in a few hours depending on air temperature, metal surface thickness and thickness of application/repair.

Will JB Weld stick to painted metal?

As mentioned above, JB Weld will adhere to paint just fine, but it will only adhere as well as the paint to the surface.
