Star IDs are a form of identification. Many who have a U.S. driver’s license may notice a star in the corner of their ID. Star IDs were created in response to the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001. The United States Congress passed the REAL ID Act in 2005.

How do you make a StarID?
How do I activate my StarID?
- Go to StarID Self Service.
- Click on Activate Your StarID.
- On the StarID Self Service Page, click on Activate StarID.
- Under the Students section, click on Tech ID (Student ID)
- Using the School dropdown, select your Distance Minnesota home college.
Can you delete a star ID?
Your StarID is assigned when an application is started or employment is confirmed and it cannot be changed.
Why do I need an Alabama star ID?
STAR ID is a step beyond an ordinary Alabama driver license or non-driver identification card and it meets all the requirements of federal law. Effective May 3, 2023, every air traveler will need a REAL ID compliant license/ID (STAR ID) or another form of identification for domestic air travel.
