Can an Alberta nurse work in BC?
You have to apply to write the exam through CARNA because you were educated in Alberta. You can likely apply to write it anywhere. But unless things have changed drastically with the Colleges of Nursing, you will have to register first in Alberta then transfer your registration to BC.

What happens if my nursing registration lapsed?
If this registration lapses, for whatever reason, it is a criminal offence to continue to practice as a nurse or midwife and if you forget to renew your registration whilst employed, you may face disciplinary processes from your employer.
What happens if I let my NMC registration lapsed?
If you have lapsed from the NMC register due to a failed payment or by mistake it can be a massive shock. You will need to apply for readmission on NMC online and if you have worked without registration, the NMC will want to know why. It is not a complicated process, but it is important that it is completed accurately.
Can you hold a nursing license in two provinces?
You can be registered in two Provinces simultaneously, but after a period of time you will be required to take non practicing status. New Brunswick will forward the details of your registration to CARNA. CARNA will assess and then issue a license. This process may take anywhere from 6 weeks to three months.

How long can you take a break from nursing?
While Nursing is an excellent career, some nurses choose to take extended breaks from nursing for a variety of reasons. Some chose to have families, others pursue different career paths or interests but may decide to return to nursing after a period of six months or more off.
