What do RAF aircrew do?

Aircrew manage all aircraft whilst in operation. Whether a Pilot or a Weapons Systems Operator overseeing sensors and gathering intelligence it is their responsibility to keep those in the air and on the ground safe. You will work on board aircraft to provide support for ground forces.

Does the RAF have cabin crew?

As an RAF Air & Ground Steward you will work as Cabin Crew on the A330-200 Voyager aircraft and later as part of our Specialist Field catering Squadron or work alongside industry partners in Military Messes.

Is the RAF still recruiting?

Yes, the RAF are still actively recruiting despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the selection process remains the same, some elements which were in person previous to March 2020 are likely to be carried out virtually. However, as and when the pandemic decreases this will likely change.

What qualifications do you need to be a fighter pilot in the RAF?

APPLICANTS MUST:

  • Be aged 17.5 – 23 years old (Must enter IOT before 24th birthday)
  • Have GCSEs at Grade C/4 or SNE at Grade 5 or SCE Standard Grades at Grade 2/SNE 5 in English and Maths and at least three other subjects.
  • Be a citizen of the United Kingdom or holder of dual UK/ other nationality.

How hard is RAF pilot selection?

It is a hard job, and very difficult to get into and stay in. Study everything about it. If you don’t know an awful lot about the job before you get there, you won’t get it. You should be asking your AFCO and studying the RAF website at length.

Is the RAF a good career?

The work/life balance with the RAF is very good, whether you prefer to head straight to the bar after work, go to the gym, enjoy full-scale dining in the Officer’s Mess or head home to your own house and family then the RAF has something to offer you.

Can you fail the RAF interview?

Fundamentally, this interview is certainly a pass/fail. Some people think it’s a guaranteed pass and put it place as more of a ‘formality’ than anything else. That’s not true. You can fail it.

How long does the RAF recruitment process take?

The entire application process for the RAF can take anywhere between 3-9 months, sometimes longer. This can depend on which role you apply for and when you apply.
