What fluid Do Bennett Trim Tabs use?
Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)
Use any type of Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF). Don’t worry about the exact brand or type – it will all work, and can even be mixed. To add fluid, remove the Lexan cover on the HPU, locate the “filler stack” in the left front corner of the reservoir. There is a round plug sealing the filler stack.

Which is better hydraulic or electric trim tabs?
Durability is the biggest advantage of hydraulic over electric systems. Common sense tells you that electrical components are more susceptible to damage when submerged. If the O-rings inside an electric actuator fail, water will flood the actuator.
What is the cause of trim tabs go down but not up?
If trim tabs go down but will not retract: Inspect for low voltage of the battery. Check battery voltage while HPU (or another accessory) is running. If voltage is less than 10 volts, valves may not open.
Can you flush an outboard tilted up?
The engine block is always above water so just flush in the down position. Not a chance. Water is introduced to the exhaust below the engine. Even tilted all the way up, you could never put enough water through the flush port to have it flow uphill up the exhaust and into a cylinder.
How far should my outboard be in the water?
If you have a short shaft motor, the top most part of the transom and the lower most part of the boat should be about 15 to 16 inches. For a long shaft, I think 20 to 21 inches is correct.
Do trim tabs help in shallow water?
Use trim tabs when pulling skiers; by dropping the tabs down, the driver can lift the stern and lower the bow to plane more quickly. Helping a boat jump on plane faster and in shorter distance is also beneficial for anglers fishing in shallow water.
