What are rag rugs?

Why are rag rugs useful?
The most common traditional uses for rag rugs were as ‘slip mats’, to go in front of the door to stop draughts, as floor mats by the side of beds or in front of the fire, and sometimes they were put on beds at night (they didn’t have duvets), and on the floor during the day.
Where did rag rugs come from?
The rag rug first appeared in manors and other prestigious estates. This symbol of status and wealth then slowly made its way to well-off country farmers, merchants, and priests. They had large rooms that were used only for socializing or spaces that would be festively decorated for holidays and for receiving guests.
How many shirts do you need to make a rag rug?

How many t-shirts does it take to make a braided rug?
Select a few old t-shirts from your closet, a thrift store, or your Aunt Marcy’s NASCAR t-shirt collection. I used 5.5 t-shirts to make a rug that is approximately 18″ in diameter, but if you have more time and patience than I do or if you want a bigger rug, you could use more shirts.
