What is the I-20 process?
The I-20 is a multi-purpose document issued by a U.S. government-approved educational institution certifying that a student has been admitted to a full-time study program and has demonstrated sufficient financial resources to stay in the United States.

Name, address, date of birth and email address. Country of birth and country of citizenship. School Code as listed on the Form I-20 “Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status.” SEVIS Identification Number as listed on the Form I-20.

How long does it take to process I-20?

Can I show fixed deposit for I-20?
Your bank balance(Liquid Fund or Direct Cash in Bank) should be above the amount on I20. Don’t show Fixed Deposits(FD), PFs under readily available funds for your F1 Visa Interview. They will NOT be considered as immediate liquid funds available(Direct Cash). They are extra amounts available for your Education.
Can I book visa without I-20?
No, you cannot. DS 160 form has questions about which Visa type you are applying for, when you select F1 Visa in that form, it asks for your SEVIS ID which is only printed on your i20 and if you do not have an i20 then you cannot go for the student visa interview.
