Yes! Staining on top of older stain is perfectly fine. You will need to understand your specific project and plan before you begin but staining on top of old stain is fairly simple. As we mentioned earlier, staining on top of old stain works best if you want a darker stain.

Is there a grey stain for wood?

If you’re looking for more of a true grey wood stain, Willow Gray is probably your best option. Not too dark and not too light, this gray color is just right.

The high urethane content of General Finishes Gel Stains results in a lustrous finish that tends to fool people into assuming no sealant is required. The beauty of Gel Stain comes from the thick urethane which can carry a LOT of color to any surface, but that color must be sealed in with top coat.
