Do you need special paint for marbling?
Marbling is one of our favorite art activities and we’ve done it many ways and many times over the years. We’ve marbled paper with all kinds of paints from watercolors, tempera, acrylics, and even food coloring.
Does acrylic paint float on water?
Squirt a drop of acrylic paint onto the tip of a skewer. Touch the water surface with the skewer tip so the paint transfers to the surface of the water. It should float.
How do you make liquid starch for marbling?
Make a double recipe of liquid starch by dissolving 4 Tbs. corn starch in 1/2 cup cold water. Bring 6 cups water to a boil in a sauce pan. Add the cornstarch solution to the water, stir well and boil for 1 minute.
What kind of paper do you use for marbling?
Water color paper works well for marbling, as well as thick printing papers. Any paper that is unsized and can withstand submersion in water will make excellent marbling paper. Thin but strong papers like Hosho rice paper can also be used.
How do you mix acrylic paint for marbling?
Mix Medium Viscosity Concentrated Artist Colors with Marble Ease and a small amount of distilled water, to the consistency of light cream. If paint is too thick it will sink; if too thin it will spread out quickly and become transparent. Marble Ease should be added directly to the paint.
Do you need special paper for water marbling?
When you’re looking for a paper to marble, it should generally be an absorbent, lightly sized, uncoated stock. This may be a drawing, printmaking, or sketch paper. I’ve found that alpha cellulose, cotton, and recycled fibers tend to work well because they are absorbent but have decent wet strength.
Can you use regular acrylic paint for marbling?
Yes! Almost any object that you can lightly dip into your container can be marbled with acrylic paint. The main issue with marbling on canvas would be find a canvas that will fit into your disposable container.
