As a publishing platform, Untappd’s revenue was based upon integrated advertising techniques, such as “sponsored badges” that app users could earn for using the platform and for instance trying out five different IPAs. The company also does in-app promotions with festivals throughout the world.

Untappd is a social silo for posting consumptions of beer (which they call “Check-ins” to beers) and optionally any or all of where (venue, thus making it an actual checkin), 1-5 star rating, photo, or review commentary. Users can “toast” (a drink-specific form of like) each other’s “check-ins”.

You can add beer(s) to Untappd as long as you have not had your creation privileges revoked due to multiple improper entries. How do you combine beers on Untappd?
To merge a beer:
- Navigate to your Beer Management tab.
- Click on the “Merge” button next to the beer you want to merge.
- Move the duplicate listing(s) to the merge list.
- Click “Create Merge List”
- Select which beer should be the master listing and enter the rationale for the merge.
- Click “Submit Merge List”
