Is Bondo brittle?

Too much hardener will cause the cured material to become brittle and crack, while too little delays a cure almost indefinitely.

Does Bondo have structural strength?

Bondo Metal Reinforced Filler is easy to use, yet exceptionally strong for repairing and rebuilding metal, fiberglass and more.

What is the difference between fiberglass resin and fiberglass jelly?

Resin is just to soak the mat. Jelly is more cosmetic.

Can you put too much hardener in Bondo?

If you add too much hardener, the mixture will gel too quickly. If you add too little, it increases the amount of time for it to cure, and if you don’t add enough it will never cure. If you add 1 line of hardener across the top of the dollop of Bondo, it takes about 15 minutes to dry after applying.

Will Bondo harden without enough hardener?

Without it the bondo won’t get hard. Put a small piece of bondo on a board and run a line of hardener from end to end. It will take about five minutes to mix it up and apply it. If it starts tacking up, stop applying it or you’ll mess it up.

What’s the difference between Bondo glass and Bondo?

Bondo glass works best if you want a quality filler that is easy to apply. Bondo glass features shorter strands that are interlocked to repair metal and other materials such as wood and fiberglass. Compared to Bondo hair, it’s much easier to mix and apply. That is the biggest advantage.

Will Bondo ever dry without hardener?

Bondo is a two-part composite, which means neither part is any good without the other. Without the hardener, the resin may dry somewhat, but it won’t achieve that rock-solid cure that occurs when you use the correct ratio of hardener to resin.

Can you use a heat gun on Bondo?

Bondo is thermoset. All that the hardener does is generate heat, so it’s not really “hardener drying” just like it’s not “air drying”. You can put Bondo in the oven to harden it, for example. So anything that makes it hotter, such as hair dryers, sunshine or heat guns, will speed it up.
