York Stone, or Yorkstone as some know it, has been a favourite paving stone choice for many years, around 200 years to be precise! It is a natural stone, sourced from quarries within the north Yorkshire moors, and typically consists of either yellow-brown (buff) or grey shades.

Yorkstone, or Yorkshire Stone, is a generic name for sandstone quarried in the North of England. It is characterised by its fine, tightly packed, grains which make it an ideal hard wearing material for use as steps and other architectural masonry.

Yorkstone comes in a variety of colours depending on the minerals within the stone and where it is quarried from. Usually the colour on the outside is red to brown whilst on the inside it is a sandy yellow colour. We tend to see the yellow colour in the paving stones as the stone has been cut and laid into place.
