Is Derwent Inktense good?

Derwent Inktense pencils are our best watercolour pencil ever! You can use them dry but mix them with water and WOW! the colour turns into vibrant ink. Once it’s dry, the colour is fixed and you can work over the top of it, and, because it is permanent it’s great for using on fabric such as silk and cotton!

What is the difference between watercolor pencils and Inktense pencils?

Both pencils are highly blendable but the formulation of each pencil varies. The softer formulation of Watercolour makes for easy transfer to paper, whilst Inktense has a harder, waxier laydown. Inktense cores are also slightly thicker and feel chunkier to hold.

What is the best paper to use with Derwent Inktense pencils?

The best surface I’ve found for using Inktense is cold press watercolor paper that has a toothier surface than Hot Press. It’s called Not surface in the UK, where Inktense are from, as in “Not hot pressed.”

Can you use Inktense pencils without water?

Use dry Inktense Pencils (no water) to add the final linear details – especially in the foreground grasses. You can layer Inktense without smudging or lifting previous layers. Start with the lighter colours at the bottom before adding the darker colours over the top.

Is Inktense permanent?

Are Derwent pencils any good?

Almost all of the pencil reviews had the highest praise (vivid colors, good coverage) as well as the lowest praise (leads constantly breaking, leads off-centered, impossible to sharpen, etc.). After several days of near analysis paralysis, I finally settled on the Derwent Inktense collection of 72 pencils.

Can I use the Inktense burnisher with a wooden box?

If you lay down the burnisher on the page it is waxy enough to resist water – so with the Inktense when you create a wash of colour you can leave gaps in the wash by protecting the page with the burnisher. I’m sure this would work with Derwent Watercolour 72 Pencil Set in a Wooden Box range of pencils too.
