Opened in 1973, the residence is named after Marion Stillwell Bates, the university’s first Dean of Women from 1947 to 1965, a time when female student enrolment tripled. The “apartment-style” residence now houses 504 students on 6 floors and is located near Cootes Paradise on the western edge of campus.
