Is as above so below a true story?
The criminally underrated As Above/So Below took horror fans deep into The Catacombs in a fresh take on the found-footage subgenre. And while many of these found-footage horror films claim to be inspired by true stories, As Above/So Below does not, which is weird considering there is a true story just as terrifying.

How scary is as above so below?
There are few actual scares in As Above So Below. It has an atmosphere similar to The Descent and keeps the slow eerie pace throughout the first two acts of the film. That in my opinion is the greatest strength of this film, and any others of its ilk – the focus on atmosphere rather than shock horror or jump scares.

Was as above so below really filmed in the catacombs?
Production. With permission from the French authorities the film was shot in the real catacombs of Paris. There was very little use of props, as the actors had to use the environment around them.
How gory is as above so below?
There’s some brief but strong gore when characters are injured or attacked in the tunnels. Characters die, plenty of blood is shown, and there are some gory injuries (a smashed skull, a gaping neck wound, etc.). There are also some scary moments — from cave-ins and claustrophobia to ghosts and creepy creatures.
Are the catacombs real?
There’s a lot of catacombs around the world, but the Paris Catacombs are well-known by travelers around the world. Only a little less than two-mile is actually open to the public, while the rest of the catacombs go on for over two-hundred-miles in an underground system of pathways and tunnels.
