What is Dacron sail cloth?
Woven polyester sailcloth is often called “dacron”, in reference to the brand name given by DuPont to their Type 52 Dacron yarn, which was developed specifically for sailcloth and was the industry standard for years. Over the years other suppliers have introduced premium polyester yarns well suited to sailcloth.

What stitch is used for sails?

Sewing sails with a zigzag stitch is the preferred method as zigzag stitches distribute the strain across standard overlapping sail seams better than straight stitches. Zigzag stitching also contains the raw edge of a seam better given its wider sewing path.
