Parking and start point I find the best place to park is at the eastern end of Startifants Lane near Chipping. There are a few spaces here so if not full you don’t have to walk up from the village itself. From here you cannot miss the slopes of Parlick up the hill.

You can also see why the fell is called Longridge. It literally is a summit with a long wide ridge at the top. Walking up from the southern side like I did yo get the forest and more gentle slopes. To the north it is more a sharp and steep downwards.

The forest is not too dense with some deciduous woodland being planted to break up the uniform conifers. Easy access makes this a popular walk from the Lancashire ‘mill’ towns of Burnley, Blackburn, Wigan & Bolton. There seemed no objection to following the forest tracks up Longridge Fell.
What is the best way to view Longridge Fell?
Fortunately the summit peeps up above the forestry and affords some excellent views to the north and west, in particular towards Fair Snape Fell and the Trough of Bowland. There is an alternative, and quicker, option to climb Longridge Fell from the north but it is steep, and unpleasant.
