Do Smarties run on icing?
The smarties stick really well and don’t bleed on the icing. Don’t worry if you haven’t got any Smarties, you can always use M&Ms or Skittles, just use your imagination.
How do you keep Smarties from discoloring on cakes?
Use a gel or paste food colouring like ProGel or Sugarflair so your batter doesn’t go runny but you get a really nice bright colour. If you don’t want to do six layers, just Red, Yellow, Green & Blue do the trick nicely (as I did for this one). Bake the layers of sponge in the same size tins.

12 tubes of smarties (or 450g) 3 packets of cadbury fingers (I used the honeycomb ones as they were on offer!) Method: (Before starting, I emptied all the tubes of smarties and put them in piles of each colour to make it easier when it came to placing them on the cake!…I did this while the pasta for dinner was boiling!)
Are there any blue Smarties in the packets?
Guess what folks, there aren’t any blue smarties in the mini smarties packets. There are four colours, all a little washed out, yellow, lime green, orange and a bright pink colour burst saviour. I baked the cake the night before only discovering the smarties colour disappointment the next day. I kicked myself for not being thorough and checking.
Can you put Smarties in the fridge?
Ive found in the past condensation can form on smarties in the fridge and totally ruin the look.
