Ceredigion’s Household Waste Sites at Aberystwyth, Cardigan, Lampeter and Llanarth remain open. Residents are reminded that additional rules and control measures are in place and these must be adhered to. The site rules are in place to ensure the health and safety of both residents and staff on the sites.
Can I take a mattress to the tip Leeds?
You can take unwanted household items, such as furniture, TVs, fridges, beds and mattresses and dispose of them for free at one of our household waste recycling centres.
Can you recycle polystyrene in Ceredigion?
Plastic bags can be placed in your clear recycling bag. The type of thin plastic on top of food packaging can’t be recycled, please put in your non-recyclable black waste bag. See Plastic bags. Polystyrene can be placed in your clear recycling bag.
Can I get a wheelie bin from Ceredigion Council?
Or, visit your nearest Community Recycling Hub. For replacement bins and caddies please contact us. Please note that we do not provide containers for non-recyclable waste. Residents are required to provide a suitable secure container such as a strong black bag or a wheelie bin.
What can go in black bags?

- Nappies.
- Crisp packets.
- Polystyrene.
- Tetrapak (juice cartons)
- Animal waste including dog poo, cat litter and small animal bedding.

Can you put wood in a green bin?
Please place wood and other garden materials in the green lidded bin. Wood and other garden materials do not belong in the yellow lidded recycle bin. They cause contamination and can mean that your recycling goes to waste. Please place them in the green lidded food and garden organics (FOGO) bin instead.
What happens to food waste in Ceredigion?
The food waste is taken to an Anaerobic Digester at Severn Trent Green Power in Stormy Down near Bridgend. The food waste is treated and the end products are a bio gas which generates electricity, and a slurry type fertiliser.
Can you take a van to the tip Leeds?
If you use a vehicle which has been designed only for commercial use, or a very large vehicle which can carry considerably more than a tonne of waste, you would not be allowed to use the household waste recycling centres. Vehicles not allowed in household waste recycling centres include: box type vans.
