I read several of Clavell’s other books and they were also good but Shogun is by far my favorite. It has it all: action, romance, wonderful historical detail, intrigue, great plot and things that caught me by surprise.

Michael Kidd Definitely. These two books have basically nothing to do with each other. I read all the books in random order and still understood each. If you can however, read Shogun before Gai-Jin if possible as the latter refers to the former sometimes, though the stories aren’t really related.
