What is time trial position?

What is time trial position?

As I mentioned, the purpose of the TT/Tri position is to allow the rider to assume an aerodynamic posture aboard the bike, whereby their pelvis and shoulders rotate forward in harmony. This forward rotation is the part that will cause discomfort.

Should you train in TT position?

Because of the differences in geometry and position, the TT position can produce more acute hip and knee angles in flexion and therefore challenge your body’s physiology in a different way. For triathletes, particularly long-course athletes, re-familiarizing your training in this position is crucial.

How do I train for a TT?

How

  1. Warm-up: 15 mins including 5 x 30-second sprints and 2 mins flat out.
  2. Workout: 2 x (6 x 30 seconds) flat-out with 30 seconds recovery between intervals. Five minutes easy spinning between the two sets. Follow with 5 x 1-minute holding time trial pace with 1-minute recovery between efforts.
  3. Warm down: 10 minutes.

Are hoods more aero than drops?

Research indicates that forearms horizontal while gripping the brake hoods provides more aerodynamic advantage than riding with your hands in the drops. This makes sense because you’re reducing the vertical exposure of your arms.

How much faster is a time trial bike than a road bike?

The 50kph speed of the second test equates to a 50-minute 25 mile time trial. That’s six minutes faster than my best ever performance….Watch: how much faster is a time trial bike, really?

Bike/position Watt saving vs baseline
AIR road bike, tucked on tops, at 40kph 39
AIR road bike, clip on bars, position 1, at 40kph 66

How much faster do Aerobars make you?

1 to 2 mph
After installing aero bars, riders typically find that they’re going 1 to 2 mph faster at the same level of effort.

What makes a good TT cyclist?

To be a successful time trialist, a cyclist must have exceptional aerodynamic posture and be able to take in plenty of oxygen. Aerodynamic performance can also be improved by riders using ‘skin suits’, overshoes and streamlined helmets. Bike technology is also important in time trials.
