Can you walk on the Cheltenham Badlands?
Remember, there is no physical access to the badlands (i.e. you can not walk on the badlands.) The 60 m boardwalk and viewing platform connect to 0.32 km Cheltenham Badlands Trail. If you want to hike more, walk the 1.33 km section of the Bruce Trail that traverses through the forest.
Why are the Cheltenham Badlands red?
Resulting from poor farming practices by settlers in the 1930s, the red hills were slowly revealed as the elements wore away the vegetation over the years. The bright red color is due to a high concentration of iron oxide, while the greenish streaks are a result of groundwater oxidizing the red rock.
