What is Apterous gene?

What is Apterous gene?

Abstract. The apterous (ap) gene is required for the normal development of the wing and haltere imaginal discs in Drosophila melanogaster. ap encodes a new member of the LIM family of developmental regulatory genes.

What is Apterous in Drosophila?

Apterous is a LIM-homeodomain protein that confers dorsal compartment identity in Drosophila wing development. Apterous activity requires formation of a complex with a co-factor, Chip/dLDB. Apterous activity is regulated during wing development by dLMO, which competes with Apterous for complex formation.

Are wings dominant or recessive?

The dominant V allele produces long wings, whereas the recessive v allele produces vestigial wings.

Are wings a dominant or recessive trait?

-The yellow body trait is a sex-linked recessive trait for the male and female fruit flies. -The curly wings body trait is an autosomal dominant trait….

Why are vestigial wings recessive?

Flies with vestigial wings cannot fly: they have a defect in their “vestigial gene,” on the second chromosome. These flies have a recessive mutation. Of the pair of vestigial genes carried by each fly (one from each parent), both have to be altered to produce the abnormal wing shape.

What does ebony gene do?

The ebony gene encodes a protein that converts dopamine into N-β-alanyl dopamine (NBAD), and the tan gene encodes a protein that catalyzes the reverse reaction, converting NBAD back into dopamine (Figure 1A).

Is the inheritance of wing?

Answer: The inheritance of wing type/eye colour in drosophila is multigenic.

What proportion of male offspring will have curly wings?

The second set of offspring 15% of the flies are wild-winged males, 30% of the flies are curly-winged males, 9% of the flies are wild-type females and 46% of the flies are curly-winged females….

Which chromosome is the ebony gene on?

the third chromosome
As a candidate gene on the third chromosome, ebony was selected for population genetic analysis and association testing.

Is vestigial wings autosomal recessive?

Vestigial wing is a recessive autosomal mutation in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. Wild-type flies have red eyes, but another mutation, an X-linked recessive mutation causes white eyes. You cross a parental generation of males with vestigial wings with females that have white eyes.
