Is RNP and RNAV the same?

Is RNP and RNAV the same?

Required Navigation Performance ( RNP ) is similar to Area Navigation ( RNAV ); but, RNP requires on-board navigation performance monitoring and alerting capability to ensure that the aircraft stays within a specific containment area.

Do you need RAIM for RNP?

RAIM ensures that enough satellites will be in view to achieve the needed RNP. The RNP value is also the Horizontal Protection Limit (HPL) because the pilot is alerted when the position uncertainty potentially exceeds this limit. RAIM works by using one more satellite than is needed for position and timing.

Is RAIM required for RNP?

A pre-flight GNSS RAIM prediction analysis is required by some civil aviation authorities (CAAs) for flights intending to use RNAV/RNP routes as well as departure and arrival procedures while using GPS as the sole navigation source.

Do you need WAAS for RNP?

Pilots may use WAAS-enabled GPS systems for LNAV, but WAAS is not mandatory. WAAS equipment is mandatory for LP. LP minima are added in locations where terrain or obstructions do not allow publication of vertically guided LPV minima.

Is RNAV RNP a precision approach?

They are non-precision approaches although they provide the crews with cues and procedures similar to those used on precision approaches.

Do you need RAIM to fly an RNAV approach?

Beginning September 28, 2009, pilots using non-WAAS-equipped IFR GPS units will need to perform preflight Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring (RAIM) checks prior to flying T-routes as well as advanced RNAV arrival and departure procedures that are typically found only at large airports.

Is PBN mandatory?

PBN instrument rating privileges Until 25 August 2020, IR pilots without PBN privileges may only fly on routes and approaches that do not require PBN privileges and no PBN items shall be required for the renewal of their IR. After 25 August 2020, PBN privileges shall be required for every IR.
