We were born in a San Francisco garage in 1989 by a bike messenger and raised in the city’s vibrant Mission District ever since. We are proudly rooted in local, urban manufacturing. For over 25 years we’ve built tough-as-hell custom bags for urban adventurers who thrive off of city-life.

Rob Honeycutt, a San Francisco bicycle messenger buys a sewing machine and makes his first messenger bag in his garage in the Mission District. He names the company “Scumbags.” Rob changes the name to Timbuk2, inspired by the African city, Timbuktu and his favorite band, Timbuk3.

All our stock products are manufactured in Vietnam and Indonesia. Our partner factories give us access to technology and scale we cannot replicated domestically. We have four full-time Timbuk2 employees based in Asia who focus exclusively on sourcing and manufacturing to keep our quality and code of conduct in check.

Is Timbuk2 closing down?
