Where do astronauts wear their patches?
The term space patch is mostly applied to an emblem designed for a crewed space mission. Traditionally, the patch is worn on the space suit that astronauts and cosmonauts wear when launched into space.

Why do astronauts wear spacesuits?
The suits protect astronauts from getting too hot or cold. Spacesuits also give astronauts oxygen to breathe while they are working in space. The suits hold water to drink. They also keep astronauts from getting hurt by space dust.
What size are NASA mission patches?
The actual embroidered patches used by the astronauts were usually around 4″ in size; only souvenir patches were created in the smaller 3″ size (3″ patches are not treated in these pages).

Are there sounds in outer space?
No, there isn’t sound in space. This is because sound travels through the vibration of particles, and space is a vacuum. On Earth, sound mainly travels to your ears by way of vibrating air molecules, but in near-empty regions of space there are no (or very, very few) particles to vibrate – so no sound.
What does the return to flight patch mean?
This is the patch of the Columbia mission, of the Columbia accident. Return to flight is the one after that. They took the outline of that Columbia mission and put it on the top. I see it now.
What do all of Rick’s patches mean to you?
But, a lot of them, you know, ones where, like, all of Rick’s patches are meaningful because I got invited to the launches by Rick and went and saw them, you know. When you know somebody that’s going up on the shuttle that’s a good friend, you know, it’s a different feeling.

They were working on a patch design, who was that guy I used to work with, Terry. He doesn’t work there anymore, but he was working on with the crew, and then he gets a, the astronauts got a package from McCall, you know, from McCall did the mural, Bob McCall did the mural in there.
