Can you swim at Tallow Beach Byron Bay?
Tallow Beach is 3.2km from the heart of Byron Bay and a great place for swimming, birdwatching, whale watching, beach fishing, and just throwing down a towel to soak up the sun. The weather in this area can be extreme and unpredictable, so please ensure you’re well-prepared for your visit.
Can you drive on Tallow Beach?
No vehicles are permitted beyond the carpark. It has a locked barrier with various warning signs. Before you head down, take a look at the beautiful views. The walk down will be worth it for this stunning slice of seclusion.
Where is Tallow Beach?

Tallow Beach is in the eastern precinct of Arakwal National Park. The beach is accessed from Cosy Corner picnic area in Cape Byron State Conservation Area. To get there: Take Lawson Street east for approximately 2km from Byron Bay town centre.

Belongil is ideal for a long beach walk being less crowded than Main Beach. It is relatively safe for swimming however it is best to swim on the Southern end nearest to Byron Bay and when the beach is patrolled. Looking north you will see a small part of a shipwreck coming up from the water.

Lobster Beach is within Bouddi National Park and near Brisbane Water National Park. To get there: From Gosford, take Central Coast Highway and then turn right onto Avoca Drive.
