What does Cineraria look like?

Known for a wide range of colors and long-lasting blooms, Cineraria comes in vibrant shades of pink, red, purple, blue, and many bi-colors. It is a mound-forming plant with large leaves that becomes covered with blossoms during its blooming season.

How do you identify Cineraria?

You’ll know you have them when clouds of little white insects are visible around your plants. If you see that, look for tiny larvae on the plant’s leaves. Spray with insecticidal soap to wipe them out. While less common on cineraria, thrips may be present.

What do you do for Cineraria?

Cinerarias should be placed in bright, indirect light with a temperature near 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep the potting soil evenly moist, but not saturated. If the potting soil becomes dry, the plant will wilt rapidly and may die if not promptly watered.

Can Cineraria be planted outside?

To grow these plants from seed, they can be sown outdoors or indoors, depending on your preference. To sow directly outside, lay the seeds on top of the soil in late summer or early fall, and ensure the soil remains moist. The seeds need light to germinate, so do not bury them or cover them over with additional soil.

Temperature: Cineraria is a tender perennial that thrives in cool temperatures, ideally between 50 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Under optimum conditions, Cineraria will flower for up to 3 full weeks.

What to do with cineraria after flowering?

The flowers are usually clipped off to encourage the plants to develop new leaves. The light-catching gray foliage of cineraria makes it a good choice for areas used in the evening.
